We are a small family owned resort located by the largest inland lake in Michigan. Houghton Lake is in the heart of the state, conveniently located between Interstate 75 and US-127, less than three hours of any place in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Here at American Oak Resort, friendly service in a family atmosphere is what we are all about. Whether you come alone, with your family, or as a corporation, we can accommodate your needs.

We have accessibility to ORV /ATV trails from our resort, so you are able to rent an ATV from us or trailer in your own, and ride right from your cabin or chalet. Also in the spring there are plenty of places nearby to canoe, golf and hike. Summertime at American Oak Resort offers you a private beach area to relax, with a 240 foot dock where you can dock your own personal watercraft or you have the option to rent one of ours. We rent pontoon boats, waverunners, ski-boats and fishing boats.

We have a large fire pit centrally located between the cabins and chalets for everyone to come together and enjoy nightly campfires. In the fall, we have plenty of room to accommodate your hunting group. During winter months, we are the only local business that offers snowmobile rental, and we often have "Stay and Play Packages" available. We have adequate room to park your trailer if you want to bring your own, and you can ride on the lake to get right to our trails.

The city of Houghton Lake, Michigan hosts annual craft fairs three times a year across the street from our resort during Memorial Day Weekend, Fourth of July Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. Every January, Houghton Lake has it's Tip Up Town Festival as well. Tip Up Town is Michigan's largest winter festival that typically occurs the last two weekends in the month of January. Tip Up Town's site festivities are within walking distance, approximately 3 blocks away from our resort.
