The city of Houghton Lake, Michigan has numerous restaurants and bars located around the perimeter of the lake. There are also local custard shops and ice cream parlors. If you are looking for unique souvenirs, we have many locally owned businesses with everything from wind chimes to moccasins.
The city of Houghton Lake has a historic movie theatre, built in 1941 to look like a hunter's chalet. The one of a kind theatre boasts over 100 trophy animals from all over the United States. Their main attractions include an elk with a 6' spread, a moose with a 5' spread, and a 27 point whitetail buck! Tickets are 6.00 for adults, and 4.00 for children 11 and under. The theatre also offers a cry room which allows people to watch a movie with their children, but not bother other patrons.
There are local golf courses for adults (Pineview Higlands is a 5 minute walk across the street), and plenty of putt putt for the young and young at heart.
If you desire to keep up with your daily work out regimen, Houghton Lake has a wonderful 24 hour gym. Passes are available for a small daily fee through our office.
Houghton Lake hosts annual craft fairs three times a year across the street from our resort during Memorial Day Weekend, Fourth of July Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.
Every January, Houghton Lake has it's Tip Up Town Festival as well. Tip Up Town is Michigan's largest winter festival that typically occurs the last two weekends of the month.
