American Oak Resort is located in beautiful Houghton Lake Mi. We offer newly remodeled cabins, chalets and a 3-bedroom apartment, all with the comforts of home. The cabins are rustic, and the chalets are more modern.

 

We are located on M-55 in Houghton Lake, Michigan. Approximate drive time from Detroit (696 & I-75) is about 3-1/2 hours. Drive time from Grand Rapids approximately 2-1/2 hours, Saginaw approximately 1-1/4 hours, and from Lansing approximately 2 hours. 

 

Summer Recreation
 We have a sand volleyball pit, sandy beach area with no seawall, children's play areas, a 240 ft dock and a large fire pit, all on the resort grounds. We also rent pontoon boats, waverunners, ski-boats, fishing boats and ORV's. Houghton Lake is 22,000 acres, great for boating, fishing, skiing, waverunners and jet-skis. We also have many miles of O.R.V. trails that you can easily ride to from the resort.

 

Winter Recreation
 Ice fishing is very popular, with plenty of walleye for sport fisherman. The Houghton Lake area has 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, and we rent snowmobiles right here at the resort.  


Cabins


 All cabins feature knotty-pine walls throughout, giving them a rustic feeling. They feature two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room with sofa-sleeper. The kitchen and bathroom have ceramic tiled floors while the living room and bedrooms are carpeted. The bathroom has a full bathtub with shower. All cabins were remodeled in 2009.Each cabin also features the following items:

Chalets


All chalets feature drywall throughout with textured ceilings. In comparison to the cabins, they have a modern look. They feature two bedrooms with closets downstairs. They also have a 15x20 loft upstairs with two additional queen size beds. The kitchen and bathroom have ceramic tiled floors and the bathroom has a full bathtub with shower. Chalet #19 also has an additional bathroom with stand-up shower, sink and toilet. All chalets have ceiling fans in the loft and living rooms and were remodeled in 2009. Each chalet also features the following items:

Limberlost Lounge

The Limberlost Lounge is about 4 blocks east on M-55 across from Spicer's Boat City. They are located on the water, and are a family place by day, and one of the local hotspots by night. They have a large gameroom on one side, with the bar and dining on the other. They have a variety of food, from steaks to fish/seafood. At night they feature live entertainment on the weekends, and they have 15-20 televisions to broadcast sporting events, etc.  It is approximately a 5 minute walk from the resort. 


Marv& Di's Pressure Crack Pub

 This local pub is in Prudenville, about 4 miles east on M-55 (next to Bank One). They have steak's, burgers and sandwiches. This pub is a karaoke hotspot on the weekends as well as some weekdays.  The entertainment  is provided by the locals and karaoke singers, so even if you don't sing you will have a good time.

Summer Recreation

The resort features a sandy beach with no seawall, sand volleyball pit, children's play areas, horseshoe's and a 240ft dock. We have small 14 ft  fishing boats and a paddle boat for guest's. Guests are always allowed to bring their boats or waverunners. We also rent ski-boats, waverunners and pontoon boats. If guests are not comfortable driving a boat we can take you and your family water skiing, tubing and parasailing (weather permitting), rates vary.

Winter Recreation

The winter weather turns Houghton Lake into a winter playground. We have 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Houghton Lake, and easy access to the trails from the resort. Ice fishing is very popular as the lake freezes early in the winter and thaws near the end of March or early April. We rent snowmobiles right here at the resort and can usually give you a quick tour to the trails. We also do daily tours around the area, rates vary. Tip-Up-Town is Michigan's largest winter festival and the resort is walking distance (3 blocks) from the festival site.

Fishing

 Houghton Lake is home to many species of fish. We have walleye, bass, pike, perch, crappie, bluegill and more.  Lyman's on the lake can set you up with all of your fishing needs and answer any of your questions. They are located about 3 miles west of us on M-55. Kids can fish off the end of the dock, and probably expect to catch something...who knows what. A short venture in a rowboat (we also rent motors) will get you to a decent spot for the bigger fish. Whether you are a sport fisherman or just out for fun, Houghton Lake fishing will satisfy your needs.

From I-75 
I-75 North to Exit #227 (M-55 West). Follow M-55 7 miles into Prudenville. Continue past Burger King and M-18 approx. 4.3 miles. You will pass McDonalds on your left. We are approx. 1/2 mile west of McDonalds on you right hand side. Turn right on Jefferson St. and the office is 1/2 block down on right hand side (112 Jefferson).
 
From US-27 
US-27 North to Exit #194 (M-55 East). Follow M-55 approx. 5.3 miles East passing Rite Aide on your right. Continue past Rite Aide about 4 blocks. We are on your left directly across the street from Collins Elementary School. Turn left on Jefferson St. and the office is 1/2 block down on right hand side (112 Jefferson).
